Equine Herpesvirus (EHV)
EHV can manifest in several forms, including respiratory illness, abortion in pregnant mares, and neurological disorders such as Equine Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy (EHM). Respiratory symptoms include fever, nasal discharge, and cough, similar to influenza, but EHV can also cause more severe reproductive and neurological issues. Vaccinating against EHV helps reduce the incidence and severity of these conditions. We recommend a tailored vaccination schedule based on your horse’s risk factors, such as age, use, and exposure to other horses. Our EHV vaccination protocol includes:
- Primary Series: Two doses given 4-6 weeks apart.
- Pregnant Mares: Additional boosters during the 5th, 7th, and 9th months of gestation.
- Annual Boosters: For all horses, with semi-annual boosters recommended for high-risk horses (e.g., those in breeding facilities or competitive environments).
- Primary Series: Two doses given 4-6 weeks apart.
- First Booster: Within 12 months of the second primary injection
- Subsequent boosters: every 2 years
- Tetanus Antitoxin: Available for immediate protection in the event of high-risk injuries or surgery.
