Surgery & Referrals

Our clinic in Ivybridge has excellent facilities for minor surgical procedures, both under standing sedation and general anaesthesia.  We regularly carry out:

• Laser removal of skin masses including sarcoids
• Surgical removal of other skin lumps
• Closed castration whereby the vessels supplying the testicles are ligated (to reduce the risk of bleeding) and the skin incisions closed (to reduce the risk of infection or fly worry.  Closed castration may be preferable to standing open castration in older stallions or when the weather conditions may predispose an open castration to infection.
• Dental extractions, dental restorations and other advanced dental procedures
• Cryosurgery

Should your horse ever require more specialist procedures or investigations, we have excellent relationships with the teams of Specialist veterinary surgeons at our partner equine hospitals – Western Counties Equine Hospital in Cullompton and B&W Equine Hospital in Gloucestershire.
