Equine strangles is a highly contagious bacterial infection that causes fever, nasal discharge, and abscess formation in the lymph nodes of the head and neck. Strangles is transmitted through direct contact with an infected horse, as well as indirectly via contaminated equipment, clothing, hands, water sources, or shared surfaces.
