Our vets have access to the latest portable diagnostic equipment that can be used on your yard. These include:
Radiography (x-ray)
Our advanced portable X-ray equipment enables us to capture high-resolution images right at your yard. Results appear instantly on screen, allowing for immediate assessment and decision-making.
Compared to traditional film-based systems, digital radiography offers superior image quality and faster processing. All images are securely stored in our database, making it easy to track changes over time and quickly share with specialists when needed.
Radiographs (X-rays) are often taken during lameness examinations, enabling us to visualise joints and bones. Portable digital radiography (DR) systems are mainly used for x-raying lower limbs, which is helpful when transporting an injured horse is impractical or unsafe.
Ultrasonography
Ultrasound imaging is an essential and widely used technique in equine healthcare. It plays a crucial role in diagnosing and evaluating orthopaedic conditions, including injuries to joints, tendons, and ligaments, and is invaluable for tracking the healing process.
Beyond musculoskeletal assessments, ultrasonography is highly effective in investigating abdominal pain such as colic, internal swellings, or liver disease, and is also used in cardiology evaluations. Additionally, it enables safe, guided biopsies of internal organs like the liver and kidneys.
In reproductive care, ultrasound is routinely employed to monitor mares’ reproductive cycles and confirm pregnancies with precision and reliability.
Endoscopy
Endoscopy is an essential diagnostic technique for identifying a wide range of respiratory conditions, including nosebleeds, allergic responses, and lung disease. It is especially effective in detecting airway abnormalities that only present during exercise or stress such as those causing unusual breathing sounds during work.
Using either a flexible or rigid endoscope equipped with a camera and light source, we can examine internal structures in detail without the need for invasive surgery. This allows for accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment while ensuring minimal discomfort for the horse.
