Care of your horse in hot weather
Hot weather can be dangerous to horses, especially when it is made worse by high humidity. Horses can become dehydrated, lethargic and generally reluctant to work. Severe heat stress may cause colic, diarrhoea or collapse, so it is important to keep your horse cool. Young, old and ill horses are more vulnerable and must be monitored carefully.
There are several things you can do to help your horse cope in hot weather and there are symptoms you can look out for which may indicate that your horse may be suffering from heat stroke.
